What is CO2 explained<

Carbon dioxide represents nature's elegant partnership - one carbon atom harmoniously bonded to two oxygen atoms. This invisible, odorless gas exists as a stable molecule approximately 1.5 times heavier than air. In its natural state, CO₂ carries a subtle sweet tang, familiar to anyone who has tasted sparkling water. This remarkably stable molecule forms the foundation of life's delicate balance on Earth, participating in the continuous cycle between plants and animals through respiration and photosynthesis.

Where is CO2 Found?

CO₂ exists naturally in Earth's atmosphere at approximately 0.03%. It emerges from various sources, including volcanic activity, natural decomposition, and biological processes. In industrial settings, CO₂ is produced through combustion of carbon-rich fuels. Our power plant generates CO₂ during natural gas combustion, where flue gases contain approximately 15% recoverable CO₂. Instead of releasing this valuable resource into the atmosphere, we capture and transform it into useful products. We decarboinise our power plants

Processed for Sale and Consumption?

Our sophisticated processing begins with capturing CO₂ from flue gas streams. The gas undergoes multiple purification stages to remove impurities, followed by compression and dehydration. Through careful temperature and pressure control, we transform the gas into liquid form. Throughout this journey, advanced monitoring systems ensure the final product meets stringent quality standards for commercial applications.

What is Liquid CO2 Explained

Liquid CO₂ emerges when we cool and compress the gas below its critical point of 31°C. At this stage, it transforms into a dense, water-like liquid that requires specific pressure and temperature conditions for stability. Our facility maintains precise control over these conditions through advanced engineering systems, ensuring consistent product quality.

Expands Markets

The availability of high-purity liquid CO₂ has revolutionized numerous industries. From carbonating beverages to food processing, from industrial cleaning to agriculture, liquid CO₂ serves as an essential component in modern industrial processes. Our reliable production supports these diverse applications while enabling market growth and innovation.

Our CO₂ meets the most stringent purity standards for food and beverage applications and is ISBT compliant. Through careful processing and continuous monitoring, we maintain exceptional purity levels exceeding 99.9%. Our sophisticated quality control systems ensure consistent composition, meeting all regulatory requirements for food-grade classification while exceeding industry expectations.

Through careful control of pressure, temperature, and purity, we produce food-grade CO₂ that meets the highest industry standards. This integration of power generation and CO₂ recovery demonstrates how modern industry can balance environmental responsibility with economic growth, creating sustainable value for our community and customers.

The recovery process

This fully automatic system is designed for 24/7 operation and utilizes an amine absorption solvent for carbon dioxide recovery. The process follows these main stages:

The incoming flue gas enters a scrubber that serves two purposes: cooling the gas to optimal operating parameters and removing water-soluble impurities. This is achieved through water recirculation over mass transfer packing. The process water undergoes pH adjustment through soda ash or caustic dosing and is then cooled via a plate heat exchanger.

A variable speed controlled extraction fan directs the treated flue gas to a stainless steel absorption column's sump section. The CO2-rich flue gas flows upward through mass transfer packing sections, meeting the absorption solvent in a counter-current flow. This chemical reaction captures 90-95% of the CO2 from the incoming flue gas. Other combustion products (N2, O2, CO) are vented to the atmosphere through the column top.

The absorption column includes a wash section that treats residual vent gas, where low concentration solvent is washed, condensed, and recycled back to the system. The outlet amine level is maintained at approximately 30 ppm v/v. Rich liquid solvent (CO2 saturated) is pumped through a heat exchanger to the stripping column, where CO2 is released from the solvent.

The lean solvent undergoes a two-stage cooling process:
  • First through counter-flow with rich solvent in the heat exchanger
  • Second via cooling water before returning to the absorption column

The liberated CO2 undergoes several treatment steps:
  1. Cooling and condensate separation
  2. Compression from atmospheric conditions to 18-20 bar g
  3. Purification using potassium permanganate
  4. Drying via molecular sieve packed bed columns
  5. Final polish treatment with activated carbon

The pure, odorless, and colorless CO2 gas is converted to liquid through low-temperature refrigeration using an environmentally safe refrigeration medium. The resulting liquid CO2 is then stored for distribution or further use.

The system incorporates advanced spectroscopic analysis technology to ensure product quality and compliance with international standards. This dedication to excellence ensures continuous monitoring and verification of the CO2 product.

Spectroscopic Analysis Technology

The analysis system employs dual broadband spectrometer modules that utilize electromagnetic beams passing through the gas sample. When these beams interact with the gas molecules, they create unique spectral patterns - essentially molecular fingerprints - that allow for precise identification of various compounds.
